These 3ml storage vials are a convenient container for reconstituted peptides in laboratory settings. The clear borosilicate (USP Type I) glass is inert to the solvents typically used in peptide reconstitution and does not leach into solution the way some plastics can — benzyl alcohol from bacteriostatic water, in particular, interacts poorly with certain plastics over time. Clear glass also lets you visually inspect the solution for cloudiness or particulates before each draw.

Storage and Use
Store empty vials at room temperature in a dry, clean location. Once filled, refrigerate at 4°C or freeze at -20°C depending on the compound stability requirements, and keep them out of direct light. Swab the seal with 70% isopropyl alcohol before each needle insertion. Do not store peptide solutions in plastic if benzyl alcohol is present — migration and sorption to container walls can reduce effective concentration over weeks.
How do I protect peptides from light in clear glass vials?
Many peptides contain amino acids (tryptophan, tyrosine, phenylalanine, methionine, cysteine) that are photo-oxidized by UV light, and disulfide-bonded peptides are particularly vulnerable. Clear glass does not filter UV, so the practical control is to limit exposure: store filled vials in the dark (a drawer, box, or the refrigerator), minimise time on a lit bench, and avoid leaving solutions under direct or fluorescent/LED light for extended periods. The upside of clear glass is that you can visually inspect every vial for cloudiness, particulates, or colour change before drawing.
How do you maintain sterility of a multi-use vial?
Wipe the seal with a fresh 70% isopropanol swab before each puncture and allow it to dry for 30 seconds before inserting the needle. Use a new syringe for each draw — do not re-use syringes between vials or between animals. Avoid touching the seal with ungloved hands. If you see any cloudiness, particulates, or colour change in the solution, discard the vial — bacterial contamination typically produces turbidity before more obvious signs appear. Bacteriostatic water extends the window, but it does not sterilize a vial that has already been compromised.
